The Iron Cast of Fast & Furious 6

by Carl Anthony

"Fast and Furious 6" rolls into theaters this weekend and it would appear there is plenty of torque to go around.  Personally, I like this film series and while I watch movies for the quality of character development, cinematography, plot etc. etc. - when it comes to this franchise, my eyes are all on the iron!  And it appears the automobiles are even more over the top than in previous installments.

Let's examine the 4 wheeled cast for a moment.

1969 Dodge Charger Daytona - Mopar muscle all the way; designed with winning in mind and did so on its initial run at Talladega Superspeedway in the fall of 69.  A year later, the same vehicle, driven by Buddy Baker would crack the 200 mph mark, a NASCAR first.  Today, they are very desirable and remain a classic car enthusiasts dream.  The 7.2 440 Magnum will really get a gear head talking!  This is Vin Diesel's ride.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG - This honey is only $200,000 and maybe you can even even find a dealership that will give you a break and knock it down to $180,000.  If so, pick one up and blow the doors off that bone head that yells out his window and revs up at every red light.  AMG is a special, performance and engineering division of Mercedes-Benz/Daimler AG and their hand constructed 6.3 V8 slams out 563 HP and 479 lb-ft of torque.  The automobile is one of the most aerodynamically sound in the world.  View the video below and you will never stuff a math nerd in their locker again.

Nissan GT-R - While the Japanese have a reputation for producing quality, reliable, fuel efficient sedans, on occasion, like to remind everybody they can still go really, really fast.  The GT-R hit the market in 2007 and was labeled a "super car" instantly.  In 2011, it caught the attention of The Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest 0-60 time of a four seat production car.  Other accolades came from Edmunds.com and Automobile Magazine in 2009 and in 2008, Popular Mechanics praised the design of the vehicle with their Automotive Excellence Awards.  This beast will be driven by Paul Walker's character when the film hits the big screen this weekend.

There certainly is a uniqueness to each of these rigs and no matter your favorite car, you have to acknowledge the individual respect they deserve.  While opinions on which car (or truck) is the best will go on long debated, we can, in "Fast and Furious 6," indulge our deepest automotive fantasies . . . before we go back to our greasy garages and spend more time looking for that wrench we set down versus actually tuning it under the hood.
