Helping A Little One That Has the Flu

Posted by Charli McKenzie on

My 3 1/2 year old has the flu:(  What a sad sight that is as a mother to watch your little one be sick and there isn't much you can do for them besides a lot of TLC...aka Hugs and kisses..

We asked out listeners their remedies and we found some really good ones...

-The B.R.A.T diet was one of the most popular.....Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast (Dry) was a remedy that a lot of parents use and is perfect for the little ones that have an upset stomach but need something in their stomachs...

-No dairy products for 24 hours all it does is irritate the stomach

-Try pedialite pops so she doesn't get dehydrated

-Chicken soup is fine if she can keep it down. The best thing is saltine crackers just nibbling on them it soaks up the acid in the stomach

-I'm an EN and a mom. Chicken noodle soup is fine. I would also recommend pedialite. Serve it chilled over ice, it tastes better that way. Also dry toast!

-Try a candy cane for an upset stomach. Its something to do with the peppermint that sooths there stomach. I use to use that method with my kids & it worked well

-Give her the liquid from canned pears. Buy the heavy syrup not the light. Once she keeps that down you can give her the pears.

-Have them drink a glass of water, but slowly..Stomach aches can occur when there is an acidity imbalance in the stomach due to the digestion of certain food/drinks and in certain combinations. Drinking lots of water will naturally dilute this imbalance.

-Warm a cloth in a microwave or a heating pad and put on your child's stomach

-Sometimes a sore stomach can be very serious so call a doctor if it hasn't cleared up in a 24 hours

ALWAYS make sure you contact a doctor with medical questions!!

Good luck, now Im off to snuggle my little one!
