Dark Knight Sequel? Batman 3? Whatever, We Have Spoilers

Just as some heroes live long enough to become villains, some franchises live long enough to become trilogies. Harvey Dent may have missed his calling as a studio exec.

It doesn't take the detective equipment of Lucius Fox to figure out that Warner Bros. is anxious to follow up the insanely successful The Dark Knight with another Christopher Nolan helmed Batman sequel, but searching beyond that requires a bit more craftiness.

Here's what we know so far...

Confirmed

  • Warner Bros. have definitely given Batman 3 the green light, with a possible 2011-2013 release. (UGO)
  • Jonathan Nolan, the director's brother and screenplay collaborator for The Dark Knight, is penning the new script. Christopher Nolan told the L.A Time's, "My brother is writing a script for me and we’ll wait to see how it turns out.... He’s struggling to put it together into the epic story that you want it to be.” (L.A Times)

Rumored

  • Wally Pfister, cinematographer for The Dark Knight, spoke to Cinematical about the possibility of the third film beind 3-D stating, ""I did it for one shot of The Dark Knight because he said, you have to say you did it, and literally I had this strapped to my shoulder and I was carrying it. But I think Chris is game for doing something interesting like that, Lord knows that the 3-D fad might pass by the time that summer comes around."(Cinematical)

Debunked

  • Michael Caine decided to take back his casting scoop which included statements of Johnny Depp donning the Riddler attire in a September 2009 interview with MTV by saying, "Johnny Depp is great in anything, but there is no Johnny Depp in this Batman. They tell me in no uncertain terms." (MTV)
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman's name has been tossed around as a potential Penguin since the credits first rolled on The Dark Knight however he told MTV News he was more interested in watching someone else bring the pudgy criminal to life. (MTV)
  • Okay, everyone get ready to breathe a universal breathe a universal sigh of relief...Eddie Murphy will NOT be playing the Riddler. (Access Hollywood)
  • Even though original Catwoman Julie Newmar believes Angelina Jolie would "own the part", writers Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer do not have the feline caper in their sights. (FOX News)
