Robert Downey Jr. is Mr. Peanut? Mr Peanut Wants To Be Friends With a Nutcracker?!

Robert Downey Jr. is now the monocled legume Mr. Peanut in the new commercial for Planters. See the first of many ads to come below.  I really don't understand why a peanut would want to be friends with a nutcracker?
