Handegg season begins!

Alright so in my quest to find a funny football motivational poster pic for the top of this blog I learned something. Soccer fans>Football fans at making funny motivational posters. Like there were MAYBE two pictures that just had football in them that made me chuckle, but these soccer hooligans have about 234324 pictures that make fun of football that got legit lol's in studio. So it pains me to say this but advantage: soccer fans. And I know I was a bandwagon soccer fan during the World Cup, but the Brewers were a debacle when it started and there was nothing else on TV. World Cup soccer was like the girl who walks into the bar at 2am when your 10 beers in and just broke up with your girlfriend. It was entrapment basically.

With that said preseason game #1 is in the books! And the preseason is not just for the (as Rich Gannon would say) ath-a-letes to warm up. This is where bloggers hone their skills too. Workshop new analogies, scan youtube for funny football vidoes, learn how to copy and paste into Word for spellcheck, we've got to work out the kinks like anyone else. So keeping in mind it's preseason here are some calm observations/rash over judgments.

- I saw a lot of people on facebook lamenting the fact that 'even though it's preseason' losing to the Browns is not a good omen. Listen I'm not going to jump off the deep end just because we lost to a team that was 1-11 through 12 games last year. Nobody shows their entire hand in game one on August 15th. Not to mention the defense is still withough the Claymaker, Al Harris, and Atari Bigby.

...........

With that said losing to the Browns is not a good omen.

- Memo to fantasy owners: despite what your magazine says this year Jermichael Finley is NOT the 5th best tight end in the game. He might be the 5th best player period. Honestly is this guy going to get 1,500 yards receiving? Legit question. For the two or three series he was in he was basically laughing at the Browns secondary. He just looks like he is on another level. Reminds me of elementary school when you'd play nerf football 1st graders against 5th graders. Just a total mismatch.

- I think this line was a staple in ALL Packers blogs last year: "Shawn Slocum's job has to be on notice right?" Welp, good to see some things are consistent. Coverage and returns were a category 5 trainwreck again. The punting got better but I'm not sure if it's actually better or just better compared to Jeremy Kapinos. Like how great is it to get a new job and the guy before you was brutal. Everything you do is gold. So time will tell on that one. Meanwhile Sam Shields is like a Michael Bay movie. Lots of flash and skill, but a plot that leaves you facepalming every 5 seconds. It's early but if he continues to muff returns while running into 17 people on returns they have to look at other options.

- Aaron Rodgers is kinda good huh? Now I can't find the graphic that the broadcast put up, but did anybody see the comparison of Favre vs. Rodgers through their first two full seasons?

RODGERS
Completions: 670
Attempts: 1051
Completion %: 63.7
Passing Yards: 8237
Total Yards: 8758
Passing Touchdowns: 57
Total Touchdowns: 65
Interceptions: 20

FAVRE
Completions: 620
Attempts: 999
Completion %: 62.1
Passing Yards: 6503
Total Yards: 6944
Passing Touchdowns: 37
Total Touchdowns: 39
Interceptions: 37

Shocking right? I thought it was a misprint at first but I found it on Wikipedia. Sure Rodgers could have edited it last night, but who am I to argue with the intarwebs.

So to recap, yeah it's not great to lose to the Browns ever, but it was preseason game #1 and not much can be taken from it. It was just nice to see Lambeau on my HD TV again. Seriously a turn on. And while a loss is a loss I'm pretty sure Cleveland deserves every win it gets this year. After the whole LeBron James circus there should be some kind of Cleveland good will tour among all the leagues. So while some Packers fans want to win no matter what time of year it is, I feel a little good for Browns fans. Yeah the chosen one left, but Phil Dawson hit a 59 yard preseason field goal! Pretty much even steven.
