From Brewers Beat:
For the third straight season, the Brewers are removing left-hander Manny Parra from the starting rotation.
The team bumped Parra to the bullpen beginning Wednesday night, and fellow lefty Chris Capuano will assume Parra's spot in the rotation starting Saturday against the Pirates. Capuano, who made a comeback this season from his second Tommy John elbow surgery, had been pitching in relief since a July 19 start -- and win -- against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
Well say what you will about Doug Melvin and Ken Macha this year but credit them with the foresight to remove Manny Parra from the rotation before he tanked the season. I mean sure their free agent signings haven't been good and the team has underachieved all season, but at the VERY least they understand when to make a move to save the season. Manny Parra could have really imploded had they left it alone. But they didn't. They identified a weak link and madea move. Bravo gents! Bravo!
In all seriousness this is about 4 months too late. Like I don't understand how Manny Parra continues to exist in this team's plans year after year. Maybe he has dirt on Melvin or Attanasio or something? Only explanation. Because make no mistake about this, this guy has been a category 5 train wreck since the all star break of 2008. And every year we keep getting told that they don't want to make the same mistake they made with Jorge De La Rosa. Ummmm, what? Sure De La Rosa had a solid year last year, but let's not act like he's Sandy Koufax we gave up on. Dude's still got an ERA of around 5. So while I like this move it is just ill timed. This is like dating a girl for 3 years after one good date and then letting her cheat on you and drain your bank account before finally calling it quits when you're at 0.
I do feel good for Chris Capuano though. Guy was legit when he won 18 games in 2005, but has had about 321232 setbacks since then. Plus he's in a great position. He could post a 6 ERA and be an improvement.
PS: Did you know Manny Parra threw a perfect game in AAA? Doesn't get much publicity....
