Wil Nieves=World Series or bust.

In case you missed it yesterday Doug Melvin kept the gravy train rolling after the Marcum trade with the signing of backup catcher Wil Nieves. And if his catching skills are half as impressive as his baseball card you may as well put the World Series Champion banner in left field right now baby! Seriously Doug, take it easy, the winter meetings are only a couple of days old, pace yourself.

In all seriousness this move doesn't matter a whole lot, basically a backup catcher for Lucroy who should be the opening day starter. It just makes me take a trip down memory lane at some of the players that have donned the tools of ignorance for the Crew over the years. Seriously, google "Brewers former catchers" and the list will shock you. Like an island of misfit toys for backstops. Eddie Perez was a starting catcher for us at one point. Johnny Estrada anyone? Paul Bako, Henry Blanco, Keith Osik, Chad Moeller, the list goes on. I guess I shouldn't jab Chad Moeller, dude did hit for the cycle. And no matter how many times I read or type that it still shocks me. Sometimes I look at the archived article from 2004 just to make sure it happened. Like Chad Moeller's name can be said in the same sentence as Paul Molitor's and Robin Yount's. If I'm Chad Moeller I finish every sentence no matter what the topic is with, 'oh and by the way I hit for the cycle in 2004.'

Anyway what really matters for the rest of these meetings is what Melvin does to get one more pitcher for this staff. Matt Garza's name has been mentioned from Tampa and if this is at all possible Doug needs to pull the trigger. I mean if you're signing Wil Nieves you're basically saying we're going for it now so may as well go all in right?

PS: Think Upper Deck wants it's 'clear path to greatness' card back? Career average: .237. And people wonder why baseball cards are going down the drain.
