I'm not sure how many people caught the audio of Aaron Rodgers on Milwaukee sports radio yesterday but in case you missed it he literally ends careers during his 18 minute interview. Here's a textual version of some of his comments where he rips into Tony Kornheiser, Ron Jaworski, Homer True, I think he even called me an ass at one point!
“You know who was better than Tony Kornheiser? Dennis Miller was ten times better,” Rodgers said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “Dennis Miller was a great comedian, but one of the worst Monday Night Football guys ever. And he was ten times better than Tony Kornheiser. His stuff was actually funny. Tony wasn’t funny at all. He did absolutely no research. We’d sit in those production meetings and he would add absolutely nothing to the conversation. I’d be like, ‘What are we doing here? This is stupid.’”
“You get in there with Tony and he’s asking you all these dumb questions that have no application to the game you are playing or anything you are doing,” Rodgers said. “He’s terrible. . . . I don’t think he’s funny. I don’t think he’s insightful. I don’t think knows, really, anything about sports.”
Most football fans regard Ron Jaworski as one of the top analysts in the business, but Rodgers isn’t particularly thrilled with Jaworski, either.
“I like him, but, when I was coming out, he did the worst segment in the history of TV about me talking about my fundamentals,” Rodgers said of Jaworski. “It was not even close to anywhere near my fundamentals. The first time I met him, someone introduced me to him and I said, ‘Yeah I know him. He’s the guy who ripped me before the draft.’ The rest of the night he told me how great I was. I was like, ‘I know your song and dance.’ And now he loves me."
Aaron Rodgers: 4323423; Sports Media: -5. In the words of George Costanza he was bee boppin and skattin all over people! Note to self: NEVER bash Aaron Rodgers over the air for any reason. Not that I would anyway, hell I've got a picture of this championship belt celebration blown up and framed over my race car bed. I do have to say I think we all knew something like this was going to happen eventually. From his embarrassment in the green room during draft day 2005, to waiting behind Favre, to Favre retiring and then returning to try and take his job, Rodgers has been through the ringer. And 99 times out of 100 he has said the right thing to keep everyone happy and avoid controversy. What we have here folks is the '1.' Now I know some people will say he came off like a jerk, he's too cocky blah blah blah. But you know what? I dig it. Because if you read between the lines here I'm pretty sure he's saying he's going to win the MVP and the city of Green Bay better plan for a parade on February 7th, 2011.
The full interview is posted below in case you wanted to hear the entire thing. Like I said before it is a full 18 minutes, the whole Kornheiser/Jaws bashing starts at the 3 minute mark, but really the entire thing is pretty compelling. Bonus word: rodgers.
PS: Lost in all of this is the fact that A-Rod is 200% right about Dennis Miller being better than Tony Kornheiser. I think Miller is one of the more underrated MNF commentators of all time. Sure you had to have an Encyclopedia Britannica with you during the broadcast (I don't think google existed yet) but I probably learned more about world history from Miller than any college course I took.
Double PS: Imagine if google didn't exist. Like I'm still kind of upset there's not flying cars or hover boards by now, but google is pretty sweet.
