And 'social life' is a term I use loosely in reference to myself. But either way I'm going to have to go to as many concerts, dinners, and movies between now and August 10th because at midnight on that day my interactions with anything not including my Playstation and HDTV will be limited to bathroom and beer breaks. The reason for this? EA Sports has brought in Gus Johnson to be the new play by play voice for the Madden video game franchise. Brillant! The man that brought you such classics as "Rise and Fire!" and "The Caaaatttchhh!" will be the new play by play voice of my Madden Packer's dynasties. Honestly whoever it was at EA that came up with this needs to have their salary doubled, then tripled, then doubled again. As a matter of fact how has this not been thought of before? Tom Hammond is about as entertaining as the waiting room at a dentist's office (unless they have back issues fo Sports Illustrated). And Pat Summerall before him is as vanilla as it gets. That plus I'm not even sure virtual Pat Summerall knew what was going on 75% of the time. So I guess the early Madden's were more realistic than I thought in that regard.

Anyhow Gus is more known for his NCAA basketball exploits, but in case you haven't heard any of his NFL commentary here's a small slice of the genius that is Johnson:

And the thing about Gus Johnson is that call was par for the course the whole game. Doesn't matter if it's an 80 yard tip catch to win the game or a 2 yard run into the defensive line, Gus Johnson is set at "11" at all times. And I hope that EA is smart enough to let him incorporate catch phrases and lingo from all sports he covers. A little football lingo, some basketball basketball language, and sprinkle some of his MMA knowledge and BLAMO, a commentary cocktail the likes of which the world has never seen. In all seriousness they need to put a disclaimer on the cover of the game warning people to be prepared. If only John Madden were still doing color commentary for this game, could you imagine Gus and Madden going back and forth? Would the world even exist if that happened? Bonus word: gus.
