Giants World Series=Brewers must trade Prince

Posted by Jon Henseler on

So in case you missed it last night the Giants ended up winning the World Series. And I can honestly say I feel good for them and their fans. The franchise hasn't won since 1954 and the city hasn't won ever. Being a lifelong Brewers fan I can appreciate a fan base that has waited upwards of 6 decades for a championship and finally gets one. That plus the last time I looked the Giants aren't the Cubs so that helps too. In any case if this particular Giants team winning the championship means anything to the Brewers it's that they need to be open to ANY trade that gives us pitching for hitting this off season. Like there needs to be a memo on Doug Melvin's desk that shows the lineup the Giants just won the title with STAT! This is the offense that just won the World Series folks:

A Torres RF 4 0 1 0 0 1 12 .318 .348 .636
F Sanchez 2B 4 0 1 0 0 0 11 .273 .273 .409
B Posey C 4 0 2 0 0 0 18 .300 .333 .450
C Ross LF 4 1 1 0 0 1 13 .235 .381 .471
J Uribe 3B 4 1 1 0 0 2 17 .158 .200 .316
A Huff 1B 3 0 0 0 0 0 10 .294 .368 .588
P Burrell DH 4 0 0 0 0 3 21 .000 .133 .000
E Renteria SS 3 1 1 3 0 0 9 .412 .444 .765
A Rowand CF

Seriously? How does that cast of characters win a title? This is like when The English Patient won Best Picture. Mediocre cast, boring stoyline, yet somehow a champion.  Compare that to our offensive lineup:

R Weeks 2B 5 1 3 0 0 0 19 .271 .366 .467
C Hart RF 5 2 2 2 0 3 21 .282 .341 .533
R Braun LF 5 0 1 0 0 0 20 .306 .363 .505
P Fielder 1B 5 1 3 2 0 1 16 .268 .402 .483
C McGehee 3B 4 1 1 0 1 0 18 .286 .340 .463
L Cain CF 5 1 3 2 0 0 27 .289 .333 .391
J Lucroy C 5 1 2 1 0 1 23 .259 .304 .338
L Cruz SS 5 0 1 1 0 0 13 .250 .250 .375

Like if someone asked me based solely on lineups to pick the team that just won the World Series and the one that won 77 games, I'd pick the Crew to have won the WS 100 times out of 100. But if there was ever any doubt that pitching wins championships this World Series dispelled it. Edgar friekin Renteria was getting important hits in this series. Dude's 176 years old. Roughly. So whether the Crew signs Bobby V, Bob Melvin, or Ric Flair to manage next year's team, it's not going to matter a whole lot if Manny Parra is still getting starts. I used to think maybe we should hold on to Fielder and make one last run with him. Not anymore. Trade him or anyone else that can revamp our pitching.

PS: How awesome would Ric Flair as a manager be? You want the opposite of Gramps Macha? Boom. The Nature Boy. Coming out in a Brewers feathered robe, struttin and WHOOOOing all the over the joint, doling out knife edge chops on Tony La Russa like you read about.

Double PS: I'm going to see a Brewers World Championship in my lifetime right? Like let's assume all of the Colt 45 I drank in college doesn't drop my life expectancy my 15 years and I live to be 80. I'm going to get ONE parade right? Right?
