1,000% chance this was Ron Roenicke and Michael Fiers at the end of yesterday's game. Like that dude fell to frieking 3 AND 4 and has an ERA of 1.96. This is how they do stats in the bizarro world! This kid should be in the rookie of the year conversation but nobody knows who he is because he's allergic to run support.
Anyhow I guess even the most optimistic fan has to give a time of death yesterday after falling 10.5 games back. Whatever I still feel like there's 2 months+ left but this team isn't nearly consistent enough to get on a run like they had last year from now until September. If we get offense we don't get pitching. If we get pitching we don't get offense. If we get both we blow it in the 9th. Just a total train wreck of a season from top to bottom.
Now the question becomes what happens with Greinke. I guess reports were that they offered somewhere in the neighborhood of 112 million over 5 years. Just a touch shy of Matt Cain money. But at this point if it's been on the table for more than a week my guess is he's going to hit free agency. Someone will probably overpay him 120 or 130 over 6 years. And I know the convenient thing to say is, well $112 million is more than enought to live on for 5 lifetimes! And while that's true, if I walked up to you with a check for $112 million dollars in my left hand and a check for $130 million in my right hand, which would you take? $130 million 1,000 times out of 1,000? Plus comparing athlete money to real people money is like comparing dial up to high speed internet. The difference between 112 and 130 would be like me getting an offer for a radio gig at $40,000 or one paying $55,000* annually. It's a no brainer decision.

PS: Fiers is legit the storyline of the season if he keeps this going. Like here's a list of pitchers we have signed for next year: Yovani Gallardo. That's it. So to say we need some pitching prospects to come through is an understatement. Not exactly the silver lining I was looking for this year but I guess I'll take it? Like finding a half full warm Gatorade when you're massively hung over. It's not great but it improves things slightly.
