So the story that came out yesterday is that when Aaron Rodgers asked Boyz II Men to perform the National Anthem, they made a bet with him that if the 49ers won, he'd have to wear San Francisco gear all week no matter where he went. Well we all know how the game turned so if you see A-Rod adorned in Niners colors this week, that's what that's about. But more importantly to me in this story is that Aaron Rodgers is a Boyz II Men fan. Like they went up to Rodgers and told him to pick whomever he wanted to sing the National Anthem and he picked Boyz II Men! Don't like this, love it. Because I was already amped yesterday when they trotted out during the pregame and I didn't even have any idea it was Rodgers' decision. Like when they announced them as doing the National Anthem I've been a Boyz II Men fan from jump. Motown Philly, On Bended Knee, Water Runs Dry, End of the Road, hell I'm like that Michael Bolton fan in Office Space; I celebrate the guy's entire collection! And up until now I've keep that mostly a secret. Surprisingly being a huge fan of a black guy boy band didn't give this suburban white kid too much street cred so I tried to keep it on the down low. But now? You see Wisconsin Boyz II Men fans coming out of the wood work! Aaron Rodgers is a fan and so am I! I feel like that scene in Braveheart where they come up to Wallace and tell him that 'word has spread, and the Highlanders are coming down on their own, by the hundreds and thousands!' 'Are you ready for a war?!/listening to mid 90's R&B!"
So while I do feel for Rodgers having to be in 49ers gear all week, I think it's a small price to pay to allow me to take my Boyz II Men out of hiding and proudly display them on my CD tower. (which if you're under 20 was a giant stand in which people put their favorite CD's) (which if you're under 18 were 'laser discs' that you used to have to buy to listen to music).
PS: Too bad Rodgers wasn't around to help Will out for Nicky's christening. Would have made it a whole lot easier if Will could have just had Rodgers make the call.
