The Packers are sitting at 8 wins on the season as they head to Detroit this weekend.  Consider this, the Lions haven't hit 8 wins in a season for a decade.  They were 9-7 in 2000, followed by years with 2, 3, 5,  6, 5, 3, 7, 0 and 2 wins.  Gotta be tough rooting for this bunch with another unsightly 2-10 record this year.  After visitng with Lions head coach Jim Schwartz in a conference call this morning, I'm convinced we won't be having the discussion much longer.  Detoit IS getting better, faster than you might think.  While Packer fans are moaning about 4 losses by a field goal, Detroit had Chicago beat on opening day if not for a ridiculous call against Calvin Johnson,  they got beat by a field goal against Philadelphia, took the Jets into overtime, a two point loss to Buffalo and they had a 4th quarter lead in the rematch with the Bears last Sunday.  And while the Packers have had injuries galore, Detroit is marching on with it's third string quarterback.   The Packers have only two on the roster and imagine where this season would be without Aaron Rodgers?   Schwartz is convinced it would be a prettier record if Matthew Stafford could stay healthy.  The talent pool is getting deeper around him with Calvin Johnson and his 12 touchdown catches, rookie running back Jahvid Best with over 850 yards of offense, tight end Brandon Pettigrew with 60 catches,  the likely defensive rookie of the year in Ndomakong Suh.  Green Bay leads the league in scoring defense with a month to go and you know what team put up more points against the Pack than anyone else this year? Yup, the Lions in another close loss, 28-26 at Lambeau on October 3.  Unlike many teams with better records, the Detroit locker room has not crumbled.  Schwartz is developing high character fighters and when this turns, the NFC North is going to get a lot more difficult.  I'm actually rooting for Schwartz to get the Lions competitive, they've lost 25 straight road games, 19 straight in the division, it's got to turn around sometime.   It's up to the Packers to make sure it doesn't starting turning on Sunday.
