Brady Poppinga will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery today after getting hurt against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. It's the same knee he injured earlier in his career. The Packers aren't sure how long Poppinga will be out, a determination will be made after the operation.
Today is the NFL trading deadline and the Packers already made one deal, acquiring safety Anthony Smith from Jacksonville for a conditional 7th round pick. With a depleted roster at running back, defensive line and linebacker, the Packers may get busy with phone calls but there's nothing imminent regarding a last minute trade.
This is a big week for Al Harris, Atari Bigby and James Starks. They've waited the 6 weeks while on the physically unable to perform list. The team now has three weeks to get them ready to play, bring them on to the active roster, sit them back down for the season on injured reserve, or release them. Harris and Bigby should both be ready to play in short order but that won't be the case for Starks. He hasn't taken a hit since his junior year at the University of Buffalo. The Packers drafted him in the 6th round after he missed his senior year with a shoulder injury and then he pulled a hamstring just as training camp began.
