Postponed two days by Superstorm Sandy, Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings had surgery today in Philadelphia to repair a rectal abdominal tear, a sports hernia to the layman.  Head Coach Mike McCarthy reported after practice that the surgery went well and Jennings will need a couple of weeks minimum to recover.  The Pro Bowl receiver has appeared in only three games because of the groin pull that was later diagnosed to be a tear.  The Packers still hope he can return this season.

The team practiced without Jordy Nelson and John Kuhn again Thursday because of hamstring pulls.  McCarthy said both will be tested on Friday to see if they can practice on Saturday.  Both players reported feeling a bit better.  The team is still short on the defensive line although Mike Neal practiced on a limited basis with a sore ankle.  With Jerel Worthy sitting again because of his concussion, the Packers had only four healthy linemen taking part in team drills.   McCarthy said Nick Perry and Sam Shields are both doubtful for the Cardinals game.  B.J. Raji, T.J. Lang Donald Driver and Jermichael Finley were all limited but are expected to be available.  Aaron Rodgers was a full participant but listed on the injury report anyway because of a calf injury suffered two weeks ago.

More honors for the Pack were announced today.  Rodgers was named the NFC's Offensive player of the month for October.  Rodgers passed for 1101 yards, 14 touchdowns and only one interception for a passer rating of 121.5 for the month in which Green Bay won three of four games.  He had multiple TD passes in all four games last month, highlighted by the six scoring passes in Houston.  This is the 6th Player of the Month award for Rodgers, tying the NFL record since the award was begun in 1986, joining Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Barry Sanders, Bruce Smith and Steve Young.  The Bears Charles Tillman and Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes received the NFC Defensive and Special Teams player of the month honors.  Rookie defensive back Casey Hayward was named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month.  Hayward picked off four passes in October to lead all NFL rookies.  He also racked up 13 tackles and knocked down five more passes.  Hayward is the first Packer rookie to pick off four in three weeks since Tom Flynn in 1984.  He's just the third Packer defender to get a rookie of the month award, joining Vonnie Holliday in 1998 and Nick Barnett in 2003.  Samkon Gado was the offensive award in 2005.  The league's top offensive rookie last month was Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin.
