In a surprise move, TBS announced Monday that Conan O'Brien would host a talk show on the network beginning in November. The show will air Monday through Thursdays at 11pm ET, forcing Lopez Tonight to shift to midnight. In a statement, Conan said, "In three months, I've gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters and now I'm headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly." Conan begins his live comedy tour, dubbed the Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television tour, Monday night in Eugene, Oregon.
Though there was much speculation that Conan would end up on Fox, Variety reports that there were "financial roadblocks" to that deal getting done. In addition, according to Variety, a Conan show on Fox would've aired at 11:30 or midnight, due to previously-existing contracts. The TBS deal gives Conan the more-preferable 11pm timeslot. As for Lopez vacating his timeslot for Conan, Lopez told Variety, "I can't think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in."
Interesting... Will YOU watch?
