Last week, it was announced that Shania Twain is getting her own reality show, called Why Not? With Shania Twain, on Oprah Winfrey's new cable network. At a press event with Oprah in New York on Thursday, Shania explained that the show is one of the ways she's recovering from the heartache she experienced when her marriage of 14 years unraveled in 2008.
People magazine quotes Shania telling Oprah, "I feel like in a way, I'm starting over, with everything. This is a very personal experience that I think is important to share. This is an experience of recovery. I was in a very deep, dark slump and I needed to find a way to get myself out of it. I had to force myself back out into life, back out into experiencing things. There were moments when I really just thought, 'I don't need anything and I don't need anyone. I just want to go away and disappear.'"
What inspired the title of the reality show was one of the first steps that Shania took towards digging herself out of the slump -- she was asked if she wanted to parachute out of an airplane, and since she felt she had nothing to lose, she said, "Why not?" Shania told Oprah, "And every day since then, I ask myself that question."
