It was a big night for country music at the People's Choice Awards. As usual, Taylor Swift was a big music winner last night, taking home Female Artist. She called the win "a beautiful way to start out a new decade." Taylor rode to the People's Choice Awards in a helicopter last night, and she actually had phone service in the air. Taylor tweeted, "Mid-air tweeting...so 2010."
Keith Urban beat out Tim McGraw, Eminem, John Mayer and Jason Mraz to win the Favorite Male Artist award. He thanked his fans for supporting his music, whether they actually paid for it or downloaded it illegally. Keith also gave a shout out to his "baby girl" Nicole Kidman, who was sitting in the audience.
Carrie Underwood almost tripped as she took the stage to accept her Favorite Country Artist trophy, and she acknowledged it in her speech, blaming it on her excitement at winning. She looked stunning in a sleeveless dress and told her fans she'd see them on the road this year. It was Carrie's sixth People's Choice Awards win. She showed off her engagement ring on the red carpet and addressed her engagement to Mike Fisher backstage.
Rascal Flatts were on hand to present the Favorite R&B Artist trophy to Mariah Carey, and Jay DeMarcus joked that before going country, the Flatts were actually an R&B group called "Boys to Rascals" -- a play on the R&B group Boyz II Men.
