Charlie Sheen has paid a visit to his estranged wife Brooke Mueller, despite a protective order barring him from having any contact with her, E! News reports.  

Earlier today, Mueller, 32, was checked into the intensive care unit at a Sherman Oaks, Calif., hospital, following emergency oral surgery. Sheen, 44 -- who was arrested Christmas day on suspicion of felony menacing, second-degree assault and criminal mischief -- was supposed to reunite with Mueller Wednesday in a Colorado courtroom, where a judge was going to determine whether to eliminate or extend the protective order.  

According to Mueller's lawyer, the couple wants the order lifted so they can mend their marriage. "They’re very much in love, and they want to try to work it out," attorney Yale Galenter told UsMagazine.com Dec. 30. "I think they had a really bad day, which is probably an understatement, but they need their privacy and they need some time."  

The hearing has been delayed until Friday due to Mueller's "oral infection."
