Growing up in Alabama, siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry, who make up The Band Perry, would all gather in front of the TV and tune into The Grammy Awards. Reid recalls, "We would have to sometimes rig the bunny ears with tin foil to watch it." Once they got their reception issues cleared up, they would enjoy the many special musical match-ups that have been a signature of the Grammys throughout the years.
Kimberly and Neil reveal their favorite performances from past Grammy shows:
(Kimberly) "I remember when Alicia Keys did the duet with Ray Charles and they were on pianos facing each other and I guess they sang 'Georgia On My Mind' – I think is the song that they did - but man, when it broke down to the two of those just dueting – both piano and vocally – such a powerful moment. I loved that." (Neil) "I remember last year Coldplay did a performance and they were dressed in kind of Sergeant Pepper outfits a little bit – that was such a great performance. I can't remember the song, but I just always remember loving that." (Kimberly) "It was 'Viva La Vida.'" (Neil) "Was it 'Viva La Vida? Yeah, that was, gosh, made such an impression."
This year, the group will actually be in L.A. during Grammy weekend. While they won't be attending the awards show Sunday, the Perrys share that they plan on viewing it from the comforts of their hotel room and hope to hit up a few after parties. Kimberly says, "It will be fun just to sort of be in the city for that whole Grammy weekend experience." Meanwhile, The Band Perry is enjoying seeing their debut single, "Hip To My Heart," climb the country charts.
This group intrigues me. They seem really sweet. The new song "Hip To My Heart" makes me smile and I jam away whenever I listen...I can't wait to see where they go from here. ~Vanessa
