» House Hunting:
How would Blake Shelton have sounded singing Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me"? We'll never know. Shelton was pitched the song for his recent release, but made the mistake of playing the demo for his future fiancée, who cried when she heard it. "We were listening to it in the car," Lambert tells Westwood One. "The way I reacted, Blake asked, 'Do you want to cut that song?' I said, 'I really would love to.' Blake said, 'If you have that reaction to a song, and if it hits you that hard, then you need to cut it.'" Unfortunately for Lambert, the song's success may mean she never hears the end of it. "Blake actually asked for it back the other day."
Not only did the song inspire Miranda to record it, it also moved her to try to buy the farmhouse that literally built her. "When I was 16, we moved down the street where my parents still live, so the two places where I grew up are less than a mile apart way out in the country in East Texas," Lambert says. "We know the guy really well who owns it so when it's supposed to go on sale, I told him that I better be the first person he calls."
How do you think the song would have sounded with Blake singing it??
