Taylor Swift wrote her new single, "Begin Again," while contemplating the ways she'd changed during a past relationship and trying to remember how she was before it started. The song tells the story of a great first date that helps her get past that bad relationship, but there's more to the story.

Taylor tells Billboard, "The undertones are all the insecurities that you now have from this old relationship and figuring out how to move on from that feeling."

In another part of "Begin Again," Taylor notes that her date laughs at her jokes, which is something her ex-boyfriend never did. That meant a lot to Taylor.

"A big part of showing affection is laughing at the jokes that they make," she explains. "If you withhold that from someone, you are withholding something very important, which is approval."
