This story really touched me, I was actually in tears...thank the dear Lord for good people like Jill Jones! Here is the story of Kola...
15 year year old Kola, a Lab -Shepherd mix, never strayed from his home. Then last Thursday night he was gone. His family was sick and worried about their longtime companion who is deaf, has cataracts, arthritis and no sense of direction.
As temperatures dropped to 18 degrees on Thursday night Joe Henry became very worried about his dog Kola. For 15 years Kola had been by Henry’s side. “You just keep looking out the window thinking, he’s gonna come back,” Henry said. Kola never did come back that night though. All weekend Henry and his wife and daughter searched the woods near their New Castle, Pennsylvania home and got the word out about their missing dog.
On Friday morning about four miles away from the Henry’s home Jill Jones was on her way to the gym when she spotted a dog lying on a ramp near Wal-Mart. She tried calling for the dog, but got no response. Jones wasn’t sure what was on the ramp as she approached. “It looked to me like maybe a small deer,” she said. “He was covered; his back covered with snow.” Jones approached the animal just hoping it wouldn’t bite her.
Once she safely approached the dog, Jones tried to pick the dog up and realized he was frozen to the ground. “Like his hair was kind of actually starting to stick, like icy, to the ground,” she said. Jones was able to get the dog unstuck from the ground and bring her into her car. “As soon as I got him in the car he kind of looked at me, and kind of gave me that face of ‘Oh, thank you!’”
Jones rushed Kola to her veterinarian where they gave Kola some food, medicine and a warm bed. Then the vet’s office put the dog’s information on Facebook and received over 350 responses, one of which helped lead Kola back to his family.
Henry had been devastated all weekend thinking he might never see his dog again. “I’d sleep for a while,” he said. “Then I’d wake up thinking, ‘I’m probably not ever going to see my dog again.’ It was tearing me apart.” Then he got the phone call that a dog matching Kola’s description had been found. “I was doing some work for a friend, but I flew up there,” Henry said. “My heart was racing so fast, I kept thinking, ‘please let this be my dog.’”
It was his dog and as Henry walked into the veterinarian’s Kola’s response to seeing Henry was one of pure excitement and joy. “He started barking, and kinda bouncing on his front legs, wagging – happy,” said Dr. Sumney. Everyone in the office got teary as Henry and Kola hugged. Henry was also emotional and extremely thankful for those who helped bring Kola back to him, “You hear so many bad stories, and you think the world’s a crazy place. It’s refreshing to know there’s so many good people in the world.”
