Mindy McCready's former fiancé, actor Dean Cain is speaking out about his ex's death. Cain says he is saddened by the singer's suicide, but her death doesn't surprise him. He says all the blame lies with McCready for engineering her own undoing.
"All her troubles were self-inflicted," Cain tells People. "She had everything. She was a tremendous talent but everything about it was a waste."
The couple started dating in 1997 and lived together during their engagement, but things started going downhill pretty quickly. "I can't paint too pretty a picture," Cain says. "She would start arguments, start drama. Things weren't allowed to be good."
Cain adds that McCready showed no signs back then of the drug addiction that would plague her later in life, but their relationship was toxic. He says, "Everything she did was a manipulation of sorts. She would just get combative."
Cain cut McCready out of his life after their split, and he's now concerned for the two young boys McCready left behind when she took her life.
Says Cain, "To think about the legacy those boys have been left, it's just tragic."
McCready was remembered by friends, family and supporters at a public funeral in Fort Myers, Florida, on Tuesday (2/26).
During the service at Crossroads Baptist Church, the singer's mother, Gayle Inge, alluded to her daughter's well-documented personal problems. According to Fort Myers' WZVN-TV, Inge remarked, "She battled things in her flesh. Her spirit may finally find healing."
McCready's music was played before the service.
A funeral director says a burial date and location have yet to be determined. A separate memorial service is tentatively scheduled in Nashville at Cathedral of the Incarnation on Wednesday, March 6.

I'm not sure you should speak ill of the dead, especially about someone who struggled as much as she did. He is an ex who said he cut off all communication with her when they broke up, why speak out now? Just my personal thoughts. What do you think?
