Mindy McCready appeared on NBC's "Today" show this morning (Jan. 29) to deny rumors that she killed her boyfriend, David Wilson. The 34-year-old music producer, father to McCready's youngest son, died of what was initially reported to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Jan. 13. While Mindy,37, is not being named a suspect, the Cleburne County Sheriff's office is running additional forensic tests to determine whether or not Wilson committed suicide. McCready calls the Sheriff's motives a "witch hunt."

Andrea Canning spoke with the mother of two at her home in Arkansas and asked her if she killed her "soulmate" and the father of her 9-month-old baby. "Oh, my God, no. Oh, my God, no," she answered. "He was my life. We were each others' life."

Mindy also recalled finding her boyfriend,  on the couple's front porch.  Wilson did not immediately did from his wound.  "I just started screaming, calling 911," she said. "I lay down next to him and pleaded with him not to die ... He responded ... with sounds."

McCready did say she fought with David the night of his death, however she said she the rumors he was about to leave her for another woman were false. "David was not having an affair," she said. "That is absolutely, totally untrue."

Mindy also addressed the question of the bullet ,and that it was not  found by investigators until the next day. "I didn't find it, the dog did," she explains. "It was in the dog's mouth. I mean, that's a horrific things to say, but it was in the dog's mouth."

Asked McCready whether she believed Wilson killed himself or was murdered. Her response: "I don't know."

A memorial service for David was held January 19 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. E! News notes that the country singer and the nine-month-old son she had with Wilson did not attend.

A friend of Wilson's tells E! News, "She might have wanted to deal with it in her own way." The source adds, "I think she wanted something more private with her family in Heber Springs."

Wilson "was an amazing musician and friend," a friend told E! News. "He would do anything for anybody. And for someone who went through some personal hardships, including his mother dying, he was a really positive, upbeat guy."

The friend adds that he and others who were close to Wilson wish they could have some answers to their questions about his passing.

"We have said our goodbyes and now we are all scratching our heads, 'Why would Dave do something like this?'" the friend wondered. "He was a really great guy and dad. It doesn't make sense."

What a tragic story filled with so many questions.
