Badger loss still burns but next season sets up nicely.

by Jon Henseler

Welp I think that about sums up the entire state at about 10:30pm on Saturday night. Just a stunning, stunning loss. To be literally 5 seconds away from the national title game and have Aaron Harrison drop an absolute BOMB 3 pointer and drink our milkshake was heartbreaking to say the least. And honestly I'm not mad about the last play for Tre Jackson. I know some people didn't love it but with 5.7 seconds left you really only had time to inbound it and run as hard as you can to get a decent look. And it was just that, a decent look. The frustrating part that had me reading Don't Kill Myself books yesterday was that we missed ONE frieking free throw and it sort of cost us. ONE free throw! That and we had 6 turnover's in the second half and Kentucky had none. That hurt too. You turn even one of those possessions into points and it's Wisco/UConn tonight instead of Kentucky/UConn. Which I don't even think I can watch if we're being honest.*

The other thing I saw a lot of people upset about was the refereeing. I dunno, it wasn't the greatest, I don't think a single charge was called the entire night, but the thing was they called it both ways. The problem for us was that Kentucky is the type of team that drives the lane, creates contact and hopes for a call. We work the ball around the perimeter and look for a shot. We're not slashers. So if you want to argue that the way the game was called played into Kentucky's identity offensively then I can see that. But this wasn't some sort of two Hebners , WWF situation.

The good news is that this Badger team only loses Brust and as we saw with Koenig and Dukan on Saturday, our shooting should be just fine. Like this team is a mortal lock preseason top 10. The problem is you just never know what happens in the tournament. These runs don't come all the time and it hurts to be so close only to be sitting at home tonight out of continues. Ah well. At least the Brewers are out of the gate fast. Now keep it going Crew until you inevitably break my heart in similar fashion in October! I love sports!

*Plot Twist I am 200% watching it. The only question is how much money do I have to put on it to get me invested since it will still hurt to watch. Early indications are 3 figures, possibly 4.

PS: I don't know if anyone else experienced this but I have AT&T Uverse and my cable box cut out in the final minute of the game. Borderline Incredible Hulk rage at my house. Like I pay $150 bucks a month and in the last 60 seconds of the most intense Final Four game I've ever had a rooting interest in my cable box decides to grab a smoke. So I'm stuck listening to the end on the radio like a caveman. Unreal. Needless to say I will be calling today to raise hell to some 14 year old in India who works customer service for $1.45 an hour. You've been warned.

Double PS: Brewers sweep legit made me feel better yesterday. That and cookies for breakfast and day drinking. Remember kids, there's nothing in life that can't be solved by housing an entire box of Thin Mints before 9am and cracking a PBR before 11am.
