Pirates Fans Basically Win Last Night's Wild Card

by Jon Henseler

Absolutely awesome scene in Pittsburgh last night. Look I know they are a divisional rival and everything and I don't think I'll ever understand people who 'root for the division' when their team isn't in it, but this is an exception. This is the 'c' in i before e except after c. Because there isn't a single Brewer fan on the planet that can't identify with Pirate fans last night. I remember what it was like in 2008 at Miller Park for game 3 against the Phillies. First playoff home game in 26 years. Electric doesn't even being to describe the atmosphere. Hell the entire park was FULL by opening pitch. That happens literally never at Miller Park. I remember the excitement and nervousness all rolled into one. People on the edge of their seat living and dying with every pitch for 3 and a half hours. I'm pretty sure Dave Bush rode to the mound on a unicorn and fired a 107 mph strike while screaming HADUKEN as it went right down the pipe on the first pitch. We were absolutely exhausted at the end but the Brewers won and that's all that mattered. So when video started rolling from Pittsburgh last night that showed how excited their fans were to see playoff baseball for the first time in 21 years, you had to feel good for them. And I think pretty much from first pitch the atmosphere basically won the game for Pittsburgh. Place looked like Manhattan on VJ Day. Cincinnati didn't have a chance. And poor Johnny Cueto might need to get an Inception team into his brain to erase this memory. The crowd absolutely crushed this guy mentally. Just Noonan-ing him into dropping the ball, then he promptly gives up a BOMB to Russell Martin. It was sheets for the Reds at 7:07.

PS: You better believe I'm on team Pirates in the next round too. Can't wait to hear St. Louis fans piss and moan about how the Pirate fans were mean to them and didn't adhere to proper baseball etiquette when the series shifts to PNC.
