MORENCI (WKZO) -- The search in Michigan for three missing boys has expanded into Ohio, now that investigators have a better idea of the circumstances.
Police Chief Larry Weeks believes the father of the boys, John Skelton, lied about giving the children to an Internet friend to return to their mother, so he could kill himself.
"At this point we have been able to eliminate the reported established relationship between Joann Taylor and Mr. Skelton," Weeks said.
Criminal Profiler Pat Brown told CBS's Morning News that she does not believe anything that Skelton has told police.
"The suicide attempt? Don't buy that one either. How do you fail to hang yourself?" Brown wondered.
The FBI has moved the search to Kunkle, Ohio for 9-year-old Andrew Skelton and his brothers 7-year-old Alexander and 5-year-old Tanner, based on cell phone traces left behind by Skelton.
"We'll go 'til we find 'em...we'll keep it going," one searcher told the local media.
Skelton is hospitalized at a mental health facility in Ohio, where authorities continue to question him. They held a prayer vigil for the children Sunday
Meantime, the mother of the three young boys is on Michigan's sex offender registry.
In 1998, Tanya Derby Skelton was charged with having sexual contact with a minor. At the time, she pled guilty to the second charge of sexual contact with a 14-year-old.
Tanya Skelton was 31-years-old at the time.
