SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - A former village clerk and treasurer in Sheboygan County has been formally charged with 9 counts of felony theft amid allegations that he stole a million dollars while serving as the Oostburg Village Clerk. 55 year old Kim Simmelink was formally charged Tuesday, and court records show he’s scheduled to appear in court April 23rd on the new charges. Simmelink spent time in jail in 2009 for embezzling money from the village, but a subsequent investigation uncovered additional missing funds. The charges follow a civil suit filed by the village to recover the missing money, after discovering that Simmelink created a fake business to embezzle village funds. Simmelink spent 19 years as Oostburg’s clerk and treasurer.
