It seems that a big misunderstanding between Shakira and Blake Shelton resulted in the country star receiving death threats.

In an interview with Chelsea Handler on her E! late-night show, Blake recalled what went down after his first meeting with Shakira. "I got on Twitter one day, and I actually wrote something ... a joke like, 'Hey, I met Shakira today and I didn't understand anything that she said ... and her fans, her fans are, Colombians down there ... I was getting death threats, those people were going to cut me, they were going to kill me ... it was ... a joke!"  

Blake adds with a laugh, "But I actually can't understand anything that she has to say."  

During the interview, Handler dressed like Blake’s fellow Voice judge Christina Aguilera , to make him feel "at home."

Shakira and Usher are filling in for Christina and Cee Lo Green next spring on The Voice . Production on that season is already under way.
