SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The Sheboygan School District is sticking by its guns on the issue of religious messages in the public schools.  Superintendent Joe Sheehan said they’ve received the letter from the American Center for Law and Justice, demanding that they change their policy after a 2nd grade student was not allowed to distribute a note saying “Jesus loves you” along with valentine candy.  Sheehan said the letter has been turned over to the board's attorney and they will respond to it with case law on the issue and an explanation of the decision to withdraw the note.  The student was allowed to distribute the candy without the note and Sheehan says that’s consistent with district policy to assure neutrality with regard to religion.  He said they will review district policy to determine if anything should be fine tuned.
