In Reba 's new ABC sitcom Malibu Country , the country superstar plays a woman also named Reba who's trying to relaunch her country music career. If you're thinking that sounds an awful lot like Reba playing a version of herself, you're on the right track. She tells ABC News Radio there aren't really any differences between her personality in real life and her character on the show.
"I'm not that good of an actress," Reba says with a laugh. "I just have fun with it, and they give me the lines, and I go with it."
Reba and her husband and manager, Narvel Blackstock , are two of the most successful people in country music, so they're taking measures to make sure the business dealings fans see on the show is true to life. She says, "Narvel is the person that makes sure that it's honest and that people in the industry watching Malibu Country wouldn't go, 'Ah, that didn't happen like that.'"
So far, Reba has really gelled with the rest of the Malibu Country cast, including Lily Tomlin in the role of Reba's outspoken mother. "We're all thrilled to death to have Lily Tomlin on the show," says Reba. "She is the voice of experience, sometimes, the voice of reason and witty, funny -- a character on and off the set."
So far, Reba and her crew have shot six episodes of Malibu Country , and they'll start work on episode seven Monday. The show premieres Friday night at 8:30 ET on ABC.
