SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBLL) - There will be no special meeting of the Sheboygan City Council tonight to try to resolve the city’s current budget stalemate. Mayor Terry Van Akkeren had said Monday he would call the meeting after the city council failed to approve a 2013 budget. Van Akkeren said he would spend the day yesterday contacting aldermen and the council leadership in an effort to persuade them to support his proposal or reach some type of agreement. However, City Clerk Sue Richards said yesterday there would be no meeting tonight, but one is expected sometime early next week. The mayor and some aldermen are at odds over how to balance the budget, but they are also facing a deadline of early next month to adopt one and get it to the county treasurer’s office, which sends out the tax bills.
