LAS VEGAS, NV (WHBL) - Too much Doug McDermott. The 6-8 junior led 14th-ranked Creighton to an 84-74 victory over Wisconsin in the semifinals of the Las Vegas Invitational Friday night. McDermott scored 30 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the undefeated Bluejays. After a see-saw first half which saw seven ties and 13 lead changes, Creighton hit 62 percent of its shots and pulled away from the Badgers to take the win. Wisconsin’s record falls to 3-2. Jared Berggren had a career-high 27 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Evans added 15 and eight rebounds. Wisconsin plays Arkansas in today’s third-place game. Creighton trailed 39-38 at halftime and took the lead for good on a three-pointer with 7:40 left. The Jays hit 22-of-25 free throws and out-rebounded Wisconsin 40-34. Creighton plays Arizona State in today’s championship game.
