MADISON, WI (WHBL) - The Wisconsin men did not shoot a free throw in the first 34-and-a-half minutes of their 60-54 home loss to Virginia Wednesday night in the Big Ten-A-C-C Challenge. The Cavaliers, coached by former Badgers’ assistant Tony Bennett, totally had their way with Bo Ryan’s squad. Virginia outshot Wisconsin 46 to 38 percent, and they out-rebounded the Badgers 36-25. Ryan said Virginia forwards Akil Mitchell and Darion Atkins willed their team to a victory. Those two combined for 25 points and 17 rebounds. Joe Harris led Virginia with 22 points – just one less than the entire Badger team scored in the first half. Wisconsin fought back in the second half, as it went up by five. But the Cavaliers responded with a 12-2 run, and the Badgers never got closer than three the rest of the way. Ben Brust led Wisconsin with 15 points. The Cavaliers won their fourth straight and improved to 5-2. The Badgers have dropped 2 of 3, and are now 4-3. They’ll host California on Sunday.
