SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The Sheboygan City Council is apparently on board to save the Fishing Shanty on Riverfront Drive. Jon Dolson, of Sheboygan, called on the council to keep the old building, saying he’s aware of an anonymous donor who would restore it for retail and office use. Alderman Bill Wangemann, the city historian, said the building is one of the last remnants of Sheboygan’s fishing industry, which was the industry the city of Sheboygan was founded on. And, Mike Brunette, during public input, also urged the council to preserve the building, saying, "we are people of the perch, Sheboygan is a fishing town." Aldermen then rejected an effort to turn the property over to the Redevelopment Authority, which is reviewing a plan to raze the building in favor of a new 200,000-dollar structure to house retail, office and residential.
