State Senator Joe Leibham to not seek recount for last week's election

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Joe Leibham will not seek a recount for last week's 6th House District Republican primary. The Sheboygan state senator lost the four man race to State Senator Glenn Grothman by 219 votes, which was close enough to ask for a recount that would have been paid for by local government units. Severe storms could lead to flash flooding in Wisconsin this weekend

by

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin could get pounded by rain and severe weather this weekend.

The National Weather Service says a massive low pressure system is building up steam in the Great Plains. And when it gets here Saturday, forecasters say we could see up to 3 inches of rain in central and northeast areas.

The Weather Service says thunderstorms are due to arrive overnight – and some could be severe Saturday afternoon and evening.

The Weather Service in Green Bay says it will be the most significant rainfall since August 9th. And it might come down so quickly, that flooding can be expected in areas with poor drainage.

The Storm Prediction Center says a region from Minneapolis to Milwaukee will have a slight risk of severe storms Saturday. Whatever sinks in could help improve drought conditions that continue to get worse throughout Wisconsin.

The U.S. Drought Monitor said 87 percent of the state’s land area was in a moderate drought or worse this week. That’s up 9 percent from the week before.

Still, a big deluge won’t eliminate the drought.

Parts of western and southern Wisconsin are up to 9 inches short of their normal rainfall for the year. Forecasters say rain will taper off from west to east on Sunday.
