ST. LOUIS, MO (WHBL) - Ryan Braun’s solo home run in the 13th inning gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 5-4 road victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Brandon Kintzler picked up the victory with an inning of relief work. It was a long night for both teams. Although the game was supposed to start at 7:15, it was delayed for more than two hours by a rain storm. Daniel Descalso ended things at 2:05 a.m. with a long fly out to center field. The win moves Milwaukee to within six games of St. Louis for the final wild card playoff spot, keeping the slim hopes alive for the defending NL Central Division champions. St. Louis had scored two in the first, but the Brewers came back to lead 4-2 after scoring on an error and a single by Michael Maldonado. Cardinal catcher Yadier Molina tied the score in the bottom of the eighth with his 18th home run. Then, the two teams were scoreless until Braun’s roundtripper. Lance Lynn took the loss. John Axford walked a batter, but stopped the Cardinals without a run for his 26th save.
