Packers Dominant in Win Over Bears

GREEN BAY, WI (WHBL) - A punishing defense, a touchdown on a fake field goal, and a promise of redemption fueled the Green Bay Packers last night as they beat Chicago 23-10 at Lambeau Field. The redemption was for the Pack’s season-opening loss to San Francisco – and Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler was the one who paid for it. He was sacked seven times and threw four interceptions, two to Tramon Williams. Clay Matthews had three-and-a-half of Green Bay’s seven sacks. New Bears’ receiver Brandon Marshall was held to two catches for 24 yards. And Packers’ coach Mike McCarthy turned heads when he put the field goal unit out, and had holder Tim Masthay flip the ball to tight end Tom Crabtree – who ran it in from 27 yards out for a touchdown. That put the Packers up 10-nothing early in the second quarter. It was 13-zip at the half, and the Pack never looked back. Aaron Rodgers completed 22-of-32 passes for 219 yards, a T-D, and an interception. He was sacked five times and appeared to hurt his throwing arm in the first quarter but stayed in. Rodgers’ touchdown pass was to Donald Driver, who complained this week about a lack of playing time against the 49’ers. The Packers and Bears are both 1-and-1. Green Bay’s next game is a week from Monday night at Seattle. Jordy Nelson led Green Bay’s receivers with nine catches for 84 yards. Mason Crosby booted three field goals for the Packers, the longest being 54 yards. And Green Bay got its running game on track. Cedric Benson had 20 carries for 81 yards, and Randall Cobb had a 28-yard scamper. Cutler hit 11-of-27 passes for 126 yards and a late touchdown to Kellen Davis. Bears’ running back Matt Forte left in the third quarter with an ankle injury. Packers’ receiver Greg Jennings sat out with a groin injury.
