MADISON, WI (WHBL) - The Wisconsin Badgers didn’t win as much as Utah State lost Saturday’s game at Camp Randall Stadium. A short field goal attempt in the closing seconds went wide right and UW avoided a second straight embarrassing upset defeat, squeaking by 16-14. Utah State held a 14-3 edge at half time. Montee Ball was held in check much of the first two and a half quarters, but the Heisman hopeful kept pounding the State defense. Ball carried 37 times for 139 yards. Coach Bret Bielema’s offense continued its struggles, but the defense preserved the win. The first score came on Kenzel Doe’s 82 yard punt return. Then, Ball’s 17 yard touchdown run with three minutes left in the third period put the Badgers on top. Utah State’s Josh Thompson missed the 37 yard field goal that let the big home crowd finally breathe a sigh of relief. The Badgers continue non-conference play next Saturday as they host the University of Texas -El Paso.
