SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - Mayor Terry Van Akkeren said Monday night he was elated that Piggly Wiggly and its union reached agreement in a labor dispute, which will keep the Washington Square store up and running. Last June the company had threatened to close the store and lay off its 100 workers. But the company issued a news release over the weekend, stating an agreement had been reached. Van Akkeren told the city council during its meeting Monday night that it's great that they are keeping this store and moving forward and that their home is here in Sheboygan. He thanked all parties involved and said, "It's great for our city." The company also announced it will purchase the store, which is currently leased, and the entire Washington Square Shopping Center.
