CINCINNATI, OH (WHBL) - The Milwaukee Brewers kept their meager playoff hopes alive with an 8-1 victory at Cincinnati Wednesday night. Ryan Braun hit a two-run homer, his 41st of the year. And both Norichika Aoki and Jonathan Lucroy homered and had three hits for the Brew Crew. Both Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Dodgers moved to within three and a half games of Saint Louis for the final National League Wild Card spot. The Cardinals lost at Houston 2-0 last night, while the Dodgers stayed in the race with an 8-2 win at San Diego. But time is running out for Milwaukee. They’ll close out their series at Cincinnati this afternoon, while the Cardinals are off. And a Brewers’ victory would put them three games out when they open a season-ending six-game home-stand Friday night. Shaun Marcum got his first win since June eighth as he went six innings last night, giving up a run on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Bronson Arroyo took the loss for Cincy, giving up four runs in six innings. He lost his second straight decision. The Central Division champion Reds fell one game behind Washington for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Rookie right-hander Wily Peralta will start today’s game for Milwaukee against Reds’ right-hander Mat Latos. Coverage on WHBL begins at 11am.
