Former co-worker of Schaffhausen charged with threatening prosecutors, witnesses

ST. CROIX COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - A $50,000 cash bond has been set for a former co-worker of Aaron Schaffhausen.

31-year-old Joseph Rollag of Andover Minnesota allegedly threatened to hurt prosecutors and witnesses at Schaffhausen’s sanity trial in Hudson.

He appeared in St. Croix County Circuit Court Monday on a felony charge of beating or threatening a witness, and misdemeanor counts of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a switchblade, and disorderly conduct. He’s due back in court Wednesday.

According to prosecutors, a psychiatric nurse told a sheriff’s dispatcher that Rollag made threats to hurt participants in the Schaffhausen trial on Friday, the day he testified. The trial is determining whether Schaffhausen was sane when he killed his three daughters last summer in River Falls.

A complaint said Rollag went up to a sheriff’s deputy and said he needed to speak with Schaffhausen’s lawyer. The two went into a conference room, where the officer found two knives on Rollag.

Security at the trial was stepped up Monday, as everyone entering the courthouse was screened at the main door.
