MADISON, WI (WHBL) - Governor Scott Walker’s school voucher plan could cost the Sheboygan Area School District up to one-point-four million dollars in state aid, according to an analysis by the Legislative Fiscal Bureau. The report indicates that the maximum losses would occur if 110 students took tax-funded vouchers to go to private schools. A portion of that loss could be made up by raising property taxes. Walker’s budget would expand vouchers to 9 school districts, including Sheboygan. Walker says it would give kids in under-performing schools a chance for a better education. Opponents say the report confirms the high cost to local taxpayers, and like other government programs, could go out of control in the future.
