UNDATED (WSAU) - It’s time to clean out your medicine cabinet today. It’s Drug Take Back Day nationwide. Your old, unneeded medications can be disposed of properly, with no questions asked.
The last Take Back day in September collected 224 tons of prescription drugs. That keeps them away from children and pets. It also prevents these chemicals from getting into the environment through the wastewater treatment plants, which cannot break down the drug compounds.
Officials encourage you to put the pills in zip-bags and recycle the plastic bottles. Creams and liquids can be left in the original containers. Needles, syringes and inhalers cannot be accepted.
You can find the location closest to you at the DEA website.
