Brown County man dead after domestic dispute

HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) - Brown County Sheriff's Department confirms a man is dead and a woman in custody, following a domestic disturbance.

It happened at the Northern Pines Apartment Complex on the 2000 block of Memorial Drive in Howard just after 4 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies say this was an isolated incident, and no one in the surrounding area is in any danger.

Authorities would not release the woman's name, but the Brown County jail has identified her as Tricia Phillips.

Phillips was arrested and is in custody, but has not been charged.

"It was a domestic situation. They were a couple. They do not reside totally together at this location. He had access to this location but he did not live here,” Captain David Konrath of the Brown County Sheriff's Department told FOX 11.

Konrath says a woman called 911 shortly after 4:15 Saturday morning.

"She called 911 herself, and identified what happened, and met our officers as they arrived at the scene," Konrath said.

"She indicated that an argument ensued, and as a result of the argument, she ended up shooting him with the firearm,” he said.

Officials would not say how many shots were fired or what kind of firearm was used in the alleged shooting.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Konrath says there was no prior police history of domestic violence at the apartment.

"At this point we're recommending Second Degree Intentional Homicide,” said Konrath.

Brown County Sheriff's officers say they're not ruling out self-defense as a possible motive, but that has not been determined yet. More information will be available about this incident on Monday morning.

Phillips will most likely have her first court appearance, where she will be officially charged.

The State Crime Lab is assisting in the investigation.
