MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The St. Louis Cardinals rallied to score an 8-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday afternoon and completed a four-game sweep over the Crew.
Tyrone Taylor opened the scoring for Milwaukee with a grand slam in the first inning then followed that up with a solo homer in the 4th. But the Cardinals fought back with a single run in the 4th and a four-run 7th to tie the game up at 5. A two-run 8th inning put them in front for good.
Lorenzo Cain and Willy Adames each had two hits for the Brewers, while Manny Pina finished 1 for 4 with a double.
The Brewers’ Adrian Houser turned in another quality start after going 6 innings and allowing just five hits and one earned run. The loss went to Aaron Ashby. Brad Boxberger was charged with a blown save.
The four-game sweep by the Cardinals extended their win streak to 12 games. It’s their longest winning streak since 1982 . It’s also their first four-game sweep of the Brewers in Milwaukee since 2012. The Crew, meanwhile, has lost five straight.
Milwaukee’s magic number for an NL Central title remains at 3.
