CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (WHBL) - Bo Ryan has become the ninth coach to win 300 games at a Big Ten school after the Wisconsin men's basketball team won at Virginia Wednesday night, 48-38. It was one of the final games in the Big Ten-A-C-C Challenge. Each conference had six victories for the second year in a row. The eighth-ranked Badgers countered Virginia's solid defense by holding the Cavaliers to just 23-percent shooting - the fourth-lowest in Virginia history. The 38 points were Virginia's lowest since 1993. Wisconsin shot only 29-percent, and was held to almost 29 points below its season average, but the Badgers still did enough to improve to 9-0. Wisconsin led by five points after a first half in which Virginia went 10 minutes without making a field goal. Nobody scored in the first three-and-a-half minutes of the second half until Sam Dekker scored inside and Ben Brust hit a three-pointer to put Wisconsin up by 10. Free throws accounted for all the scoring in the final six minutes. Josh Gasser led all scorers with 11 for the Badgers. London Perrantes led Virginia with eight. Joe Harris, the Cavaliers' leading scorer, only hit 1 of 10 shots from the floor as Virginia ended a six-game winning streak. The Badgers will host Marquette Saturday.
