SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Police Department is alerting people about an increase in a telephone scam which has occurred in the area recently. Captain Jim Veeser says it involves a caller asking for assistance for a family member who is being detained in a foreign country. Veeser urges people who get these types of calls to be cautious about sending money. He says if you get a call, ask for a name, phone number, address and where the purported family member is being held. Veeser says a legitimate government agency will have that information. If you get a call back, tell them that you have contacted the local police department. Veeser says if you get such a call, contact the police department for assistance before sending any money.
