SHEBOYGAN, Wis.(WHBL) - Sheboygan County Administrator Adam Payne isn’t happy with Governor Scott Walker’s effort to get rid of residency requirements. The governor’s budget includes a provision to eliminate the restrictions for county’s, municipalities and school districts Payne says he finds it interesting that the governor and some legislators think they know more about local conditions, needs and challenges that local officials. Payne said the county currently requires department heads to live within 40 miles of where they work and deputies to be within 27 miles. He said that system works here, but every community is different. Payne said you don't want emergency response officials or law enforcement to live 100 miles from their place of work. Walker says he wants people hired based on qualifications, not where they live.
